The residential row in the Ottakring district of Vienna represents a boundary between two typologically and morphologically very different areas of Ottakring - the single-family house architecture in the east and the urban perimeter block development in the west. The existing floor plans also show divisions. The design of the two-storey extension penetrates these divisions at various levels:
6 continuous communal loggias create a visual relationship to both sides, each connecting 4 individual apartments to form a residential community.
3 different forms of living allow people from different walks of life to live together.
2 centrally located communal areas allow existing residents and newcomers to interact.
1 structural intervention in the existing building provides barrier-free access to the entire middle building of the residential complex by means of an elevator.
Walls, bathroom modules and ceilings are prefabricated in the factory and only need to be assembled on site.
